Pendle Hill is a Quaker study, retreat and conference center located just 25 minutes from Philadelphia’s airport and Amtrak station. We are known for our beautiful grounds, our really good food, and most especially for the sincere warmth of our welcome and joyful care for our guests.
Our lush 23-acres of Pennsylvania woodlands and meadows feature 140 species of trees and flowering shrubs, a mile-long woodchip trail, ponds, and labyrinth. As your schedule permits, we also welcome you to explore our Art Studio and Library, and experience open Quaker meeting for worship held every morning. Situated in the ash, maple and gum tree woods overlooking one of our ponds, the Brinton House conference center offers an extraordinary location for your training. Your meditation space features a hardwood floor with radiant heating, cathedral ceilings and large windows which bring warm natural light and lovely views over our woods and pond.
The cooks at Pendle Hill see our job as a ministry of love and concern. We cook from scratch as much as possible, making our own bread, granola, organic yogurt and salad dressings. Organic fresh fruits and vegetables are used extensively. Wherever possible, we patronize local organic farmers. We also enjoy the bounty of our own garden in season. We rotate entrees to include fish, fowl, meat and vegetarian dishes. For those who prefer to eat only vegetarian or vegan food, an alternative dish is prepared each meal.
Our private and double guest rooms are simply furnished with bed, desk, chair, and lamp. There is drawer space and closet space in each room. All rooms have windows that open and access to controls for heat and air conditioning. Most of our guest rooms share a bath with one or two other rooms. Bathrooms are family style, not dormitory style, and are a few steps from your bedroom door. We supply linens, blankets, towels, and liquid hand and body soap. Out of respect for those with allergies, we ask that you refrain from using scented grooming products- perfume, aftershave, hairspray, deodorant, lotions, etc.- while at Pendle Hill. If you typically use a strong perfume, you may need to wash these clothes before packing.
The UCSD Center for Mindfulness will set up a Ride Share Bulletin Board in coordinating shuttle rides for those arriving by air at the Philadelphia airport.
